Road Infrastructure
Cairns Regional Council and Queensland Transport have identified the following major roads and intersections:
- Petersen Road - Mount Peter Road is the major north-south connection and will become a sub-arterial road.
- Maitland Road intersection with the Bruce Highway.
- A new sub-arterial source road will run parallel with the Bruce Highway, to the east.
A major public transport interchange is identified for Edmonton and a second interchange will be located in Gordonvale.
Water and Sewer
There is sufficient medium term capacity within the Gordonvale and Southern Treatment Plants to accommodate growth from Gordonvale north and Edmonton south.
Water and sewer infrastructure can be accommodated through current and future upgrades to the existing systems. Sustainable approaches to water cycle management will be encouraged and implemented where appropriate.
Open Space
Active and passive open space needs, equating to 170 ha of land, are catered for through a combination of local and neighbourhood spaces and riparian corridors.
Community Infrastructure
Community infrastructure including schools, libraries, community centres, places of worship and health care facilities will be planned for within Mount Peter.
