This draft plan will inform the Structure Plan ...]]></description><content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>The <a href="/uploads/32993/ufiles/EBD draft urban framework plan_130209 with disclaimer comments.pdf"><strong>EBD Draft Urban Framework Plan</strong></a> (13/02/09) is a draft plan resulting from the Mount Peter <a href="/about-consultation/">Enquiry by Design (EBD) Workshop</a> held 9 - 13 February 2009.</p><p>This draft plan will inform the <a href="/structure-plan/">Structure Plan</a> through further refinement over the coming months. Mount Peter, between Edmonton and Gordonvale has been identified by...]]></description><content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>A major community master planning workshop to discuss opportunities and issues in the Mount Peter project will be held tonight.</p><p>Mount Peter, between Edmonton and Gordonvale has been identified by Cairns Regional Council and the Queensland Government as the main urban corridor for future community development in Cairns.</p><p>Mount Peter is one of the largest greenfield developments in the state and over the next 20 years is expected to have a population of 50,000.</p><p>The Gordonvale workshop is a follow-up from a workshop held in mid-October at Bentley Park College where approximately 80 community members shared their view on the area's vision.</p><p>Councillor Nancy Lanskey said that this workshop is an opportunity for residents to identify issues before an in-depth planning process begins.</p><p>"This is a very futuristic development and people want to maintain the lifestyle they have here," Cr Lanskey said.</p><p>"In planning the future and designing the area we want to achieve a balance between community acceptance and marketability with regards to residential density."</p><p>"Diversity in housing, infrastructure, local employment and service needs of a growing population must be considered and these are the big issues."</p><p>Cr Paul Gregory said that this is an important opportunity for Gordonvale residents to discover how the master planning process is progressing.</p><p>"It is their chance to voice concerns or support around possible impacts on old Gordonvale," Cr Gregory said</p><p>"Decisions made in the next six months will ultimately determine the future look and feel of our area."</p><p>The planning design for Mount Peter will develop over the next three to five years with implementation to begin by 2011.</p><p>When:  6:00 - 8:30pm   Thursday 27 November</p><p>Where:  Gordonvale RSL Hall, Gordon St, Gordonvale</p><p>All media welcome</p><p>&nbsp;</p><p><strong>Media Contact:       Sonja Anderson, Media Coordinator </strong></p><p><strong><a href="mailto: media.officer@cairns.qld.gov.au" target="_blank">media.officer@cairns.qld.gov.au</a></strong></p><p><strong>4044 3092 or 0427 748 603</strong></p><p>&nbsp;</p>]]></content:encoded><pubDate>Thu, 27 Nov 2008 00:00:00 -1100</pubDate><guid>http://mountpetermasterplanning.com.au/what-s-new/media-release-27-november-mount-peter-workshop-invites-community-comment/</guid></item><item><title><![CDATA[Invitation: Community Workshop, 27 November 2008]]></title><link>http://mountpetermasterplanning.com.au/what-s-new/invitation-community-workshop-27-november-2008/</link><description><![CDATA[You are invited to attend a Mount Peter master planning community workshop to be held in Gordonvale on Thursday 27 November 2008.
