The primary output of master planning is a structure plan - essentially a land use plan that shows how different uses of land (residential, commercial, open space, etc.) and intensities of use (low density residential, medium density residential etc.) are distributed throughout an area.
On 12 May 2010, Cairns Regional Council endorsed the Mount Peter Structure Plan. Click here to access the Council Minutes and Council Report. The full suite of planning documents is also available on the Cairns Regional Council website at here.
A structure plan is accompanied by a number of supporting strategies. For Mount Peter, these strategies will address:
- Transport, mobility and access
- Water cycle management
- Centres (including the relationship between Mount Peter, Edmonton and Gordonvale town centres)
- Economic development and employment
- Natural environment and open space
- Sport and recreation
- Community facilities, community development and human services
- Cultural heritage
- Housing
- Visual character
A detailed infrastructure plan and funding strategy will ensure that the necessary infrastructure (roads, drainage, energy, water, community facilities etc.) is provided to realise the growth of Mount Peter envisioned with the structure plan.
