Report: Community Workshop, 27 November 2008
February 2, 2009

A community workshop was held at Gordonvale RSL on 27 November 2008.

The purpose of the workshop was to:

  • Inform, educate and update the community about master planning for Mount Peter and its context
  • Seek community input to inform the planning framework for Mount Peter
  • Seek feedback to affirm the vision for Mount Peter
  • Generate community interest in the master planning process.

Importantly, a key focus of this workshop was to highlight and discuss with community members the tradeoffs associated with development and population growth and to specifically discuss how development in Mount Peter can be designed to be compatible with, and reflect, the FNQ ‘way of living'.  (This was identified as a key issue in the first community workshop in October).

This second workshop aimed to involve participants in a planning exercise to accommodate 50,000 people in the Mount Peter study area in order to manage expectations and to increase community understanding of potential structure plan outcomes.
