Report: Focus Group Sessions on Draft Vision Statement, 17 and 18 September 2008
November 7, 2008

Three focus groups were conducted on 17 and 18 September  2008  to discuss the draft vision statement for Mount Peter master planning.  The focus groups were held at Hambledon House Community Centre at Edmonton.

Two areas of feedback were sought:

  • Views on the structure and format of the draft vision statement
  • Views on the content

There were 25 participants.  Participants were recruited via telephone with numbers selected randomly from the Mount Peter study area, Gordonvale and Edmonton.  An attempt was made in recruiting to achieve an even geographic spread between these three areas and for a range of age groups to be represented.

Suggestions for improving the structure and format of the draft vision statement included:

  • Make it more visual with the inclusion of images to represent the key themes and ideas
  • Summarise the vision and provide people with an option to access the full document if they are interested

In regards to content, there was a high level of support for the draft vision statement.  However, some participants were sceptical regarding how much these "visionary ideas" will actually be realised with Mount Peter master planning.  Other participants suggested that it was important to "try and get ahead of things" and to "set a high standard to aim for".

The focus groups were an attempt to gain views from community members and should be interpreted as a reflection of the views of those people who participated.  The results represent a snapshot of the views of a sample of local residents and business people.
